The history of the Rajasthan Board dates back to the year 1957 when it was established under the Rajasthan Secondary Education Act to promote and regulate the secondary education system in the state. Initially, the board conducted only the secondary (10th-grade) examinations. However, in the year 1973, the board's responsibilities were extended to include the senior secondary (12th-grade) examinations as well. Over the years, the Rajasthan Board has evolved and implemented various reforms to ensure the smooth conduct of examinations and maintain the quality of education.
The Rajasthan Board Exam is conducted for two levels: secondary (10th grade) and senior secondary (12th grade). The exam is held annually in the month of March, with the results usually declared in May or June. It is a crucial examination as it determines the students' eligibility for further studies and plays a significant role in shaping their future career paths.
The secondary examination is known as the Secondary School Examination (SSE), while the senior secondary examination is called the Senior Secondary Examination (SSE). Both examinations are conducted in various exam centers across the state, ensuring accessibility to students from different districts.
The Rajasthan Board Exam covers a wide range of subjects to provide students with a comprehensive education. In the secondary examination, students are required to take compulsory subjects like English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Additionally, they can choose elective subjects from areas like Sanskrit, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, etc., based on their interests and career goals.
At the senior secondary level, students have the option to choose from three streams: Science, Commerce, and Arts. Each stream has a different set of subjects tailored to the respective fields. In the Science stream, students typically study Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics, and optional subjects like Computer Science or Physical Education. Commerce students focus on subjects such as Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, and optional subjects like Mathematics or Informatics Practices. Arts students can choose from a variety of subjects, including History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, and many more.
Understanding the exam pattern and marking scheme is essential for students to prepare effectively. The Rajasthan Board Exam follows a structured format with specific weightage assigned to each subject.
In the secondary examination, each subject is generally evaluated for 100 marks, including both theory and practical components. The theory paper usually constitutes 80 marks, while the remaining 20 marks are allocated for internal assessment, which includes projects, assignments, practical work, and class performance.
Similarly, in the senior secondary examination, most theory papers carry a weightage of 70 marks, while the remaining 30 marks are allotted for internal assessment. Practical examinations are conducted separately for subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science.
To pass the Rajasthan Board Exam, students must achieve a minimum passing percentage, which is usually 33% or 35% depending on the subject. The overall performance in the examination determines the students' grades and eligibility for higher education.
