The AFCAT syllabus varies for different sections and branches. The major topics covered in each section are as follows: a. General Awareness: History, Geography, Sports, Politics, Environment, Culture, Current Affairs, etc. b. Verbal Ability in English: Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Antonyms, Vocabulary, Grammar, etc. c. Numerical Ability: Number Series, Simplification, Ratio and Proportion, Profit and Loss, Percentage, Average, Time and Work, Time, Speed, and Distance, etc. d. Reasoning and Military Aptitude: Verbal Skills, Spatial Ability, Rotated Blocks, Embedded Figures, Coding-Decoding, Logical Reasoning, etc. e. Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT): Topics related to the specific branch of engineering (Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics)
Admit cards for AFCAT are released on the official website approximately two weeks before the exam date. Candidates can download their admit cards by logging into their accounts using their registered email ID and password.
The AFCAT selection process includes the following stages: a. AFCAT/EKT Written Exam: Candidates who clear the minimum qualifying marks in the written exam are shortlisted for the subsequent stages. b. AFSB Testing: Shortlisted candidates are called for Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) testing, which includes various rounds such as Officer Intelligence Rating Test, Psychological Tests, Group Tests, and Interview. c. Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by the AFSB undergo a thorough medical examination to ensure they meet the medical standards specified by the IAF. d. Merit List and Final Selection: The final selection is based on the candidate's performance in the written exam, AFSB testing, and medical examination. A merit list is prepared, and selected candidates are offered a commission in the IAF.
Selected candidates undergo rigorous training at various training establishments of the IAF, including the Air Force Academy (AFA) in Dundigal, Hyderabad, for Flying Branch officers.
