The Prime Minister acts as the head of the Government of India. In the world's largest democracy, the responsibility of running the government under the parliamentary system rests with the Prime Minister as the head of government. After independence, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru took power as the first Prime Minister. After that many other great leaders held this post.
The Prime Minister is administered the oath of office and secrecy by the President of India before assuming office. The Prime Minister also selects a cabinet with him and on its recommendation, the President administers the oath of office to the other Union Ministers.
