Oscar Awards is one of the most prestigious award ceremony of Hollywood, which is held annually. The Oscar Awards, also known as the Academy Awards, is an American awards ceremony held annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The film industry of the United States (US) is honored in this award. The winners of different categories are given a copy of the Academy Award statue, which is called by the name Oscar. Oscar is the oldest entertainment award ceremony. TV's award 'Emmy Award', Theater's award 'Tony Award' and Music and Recording's award 'Granny Award' are as old as Oscars, they were also modernized after the arrival of Oscars. Every year people all over the world eagerly wait for the Oscar award. This is the most popular film award ceremony.

Oscar Award History

The first Academy Award was started on May 16, 1929. It took place at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, a private dinner party attended by around 270 people. Then the general public did not know anything about it. It was organized by AMPAS. The purpose of starting this was to honor the participating artists of the motion picture industry. There were 12 categories in the first Oscar Award, in which there were 2 special awards. This award was given to those people who did special work in Hollywood in 1927-28. The names of the winners of this awards function were revealed to everyone 3 months before the ceremony. Trophies were given to the winners in the main function, it was only a 15 minute ceremony. The first president of the Academy Award was 'Douglas Fairbanks'.

First Oscar Award

The first Oscar Award for Best Actor was received by 'Emil Janning' for the film 'The Last Command' and 'The Way of All Flash'. The Best Actress Award went to 'Janet Gaynor' for the films '7 Heaven', 'Street Angel' and 'Sunrise'. Two awards were given for direction, a drama for which Frank Borzage and a comedy for which Lewis Milestone received the award.

Academy Award Telecast

The Oscar Awards, held in 1930, were conveyed to the general public for the first time through radio. Television replaced radio in 1953, and the award ceremony was telecasted for the first time. Now the telecast of Oscar Award is live in more than 200 countries. In the beginning of the Oscar award, its result came in the media 3 months before, but in its second ceremony, it was changed and the list was given to be published in the newspaper at 11 o'clock on the night of the ceremony. But this rule was broken by 'Los Angeles Times' and printed the list of winners in the paper even before the start of the ceremony. After this, since 1941, sealed envelopes are used, which are opened only at the time of the ceremony.

Academy Award Categories

The 'Best Foreign Language Film' category was added to the 29th Oscar Awards on 27 March 1957, prior to which a foreign language film was awarded as a Special Achievement Award. In 2002, the category of Best Animated Film was added to the 74th Oscar Awards.
