Installing PHP is straightforward, but the method can vary depending on your operating system. Below are installation instructions for some of the most popular OSs:
Using XAMPP: XAMPP is a popular PHP development environment. It includes Apache, MariaDB, PHP, and Perl.
Manual Installation:
You can use the built-in package manager apt:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install php
To install additional modules, use:
sudo apt install php-<module-name>
For example, to install the MySQL module:
sudo apt install php-mysql
Using Homebrew:
If you don't have Homebrew installed, you can install it with:
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
Then, install PHP:
brew update brew install php
Using MAMP: MAMP (Macintosh, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) is similar to XAMPP but for macOS.
Once you have PHP installed, you can test it. Create a new file named info.php in your web server's root directory and add the following code:
<?php
phpinfo();
?>
Now, navigate to http://localhost/info.php in your web browser. If everything is set up correctly, you should see a detailed page about your PHP configuration.
Remember to remove or disable the info.php file when you're done, as it can provide potential attackers with a lot of information about your server's configuration.
